THE ROUTE
I arrived in Pittsburgh a few days ago to meet up with Uri and Dovid so we can plan the road trip. When I started planning this road trip I was overwhelmed by the length which is going to be 12791 km (8000 miles), however the excitement and adrenalin in the matter got me going.
Essentially Kansas city is the half-way point between the location of my motorcycle which is parked in Denver, and Pittsburgh. After a two day ride of less than 600 Miles from the Denver and a bit more than 800 miles from Pittsburgh, we will meet and re-group for the upcoming tour. The decision regarding where to sleep at night, a motel or a campsite, wasn't the easiest to make. Overall the tour will be on a budget and staying at 5 star hotels is not even a consideration. However the price difference between the campsite and the motel is very minor and therefore it boils down to convenience. Yesterday we just made the final call, and we will be sleeping at KOA campsites on week nights, and at a motel for the weekends. It is extremely important that our fatigue is kept and we don't ware ourselves down as the week comes along. There are more than 250 KOA campsites in North America and the amenities at the sites are quite vast (electricity, hot water, food etc.).
The tour consists of 23 states and a small part of southern Canada. We will travel south to avoid cold weather and continue west for the warm Cali sun. The west coast is a large portion of our tour and we are planning on spending more time touring the cities there. After we leave the west coast our goal is to return to the east through a very interesting route. We are going to enter the northern part of the Great Lakes and get a small taste of the French colony. After Toronto and the entrance back to the US, the short but scenic route to Boston will be our last stretch.
Good luck! drive safely and take AAAAMMMOOONNN Pictures!! :) don't forget to turn on the GPS! ;)
